Get Over Being Indecisive

How to Get Over Being Indecisive Once and For All-Maybe
By Brian Vaszily

Anyone who's ever been caught in the throes of indecision --and who hasn't- knows that it can be downright maddening. Thinking about what to do, whether the decision is big ... Should we buy this house? ... or small ... Do I want mashed potatoes or baked? ... can become borderline obsessive.

It consumes your thoughts until you choose one outcome over the other, and even then may continue to harass you as you worry whether you made the right choice.

Certainly, indecision is frustrating for the indecisive person. But that's not all. Being indecisive also affects those around you. Your coworkers, your spouse, your family and friends are all influenced by your decision-making, or lack thereof.

What's Wrong With a Little Indecision?

Being unable to make a decision happens to the best of us. But when being indecisive begins to become more of a regular occurrence than a rare one, your relationships and career may suffer.

"Indecision is a silent enemy that steals many opportunities," says Caterina Rando, MA, MCC, a success speaker and author of the book "Learn to Power Think."

That's because your wavering decision may be overcome by someone else's quick thinking. Or, you may be so distracted by the very thought of "What should I do?" that you miss out on opportunities that come your way.

"You cannot decide what to say to an employee or co-worker who has lost a relative, so you say nothing, loosing the opportunity to provide support. You put off deciding if you can afford to go to a conference, so you leave the information on your desk; the next time you read the flyer, you learn that the event has already passed. Your lack of decision-making caused you to miss an opportunity to meet with your colleagues and learn about your industry," Rando explains.

Why Are We Indecisive?

Though it may seem that some people can make a decision in a snap with little or no quandary, many Americans view themselves as indecisive. Most who belong to this category also wish they could become "more decisive." Interestingly, what's causing all of this indecision may actually have little to do with us, but instead should be blamed on our ever-more-complicated environment.

We are bombarded with decisions constantly, and most do not have obvious outcomes. For instance, the decision of whether or not to go indoors during a lightening storm is obvious. The decisions of what flavor syrup to get in your coffee, what size to order, what type of milk to use, whether to get it iced or hot, with or without whipped cream, decaf or regular is another story all together.

The bottom line is this: We make many decisions without even thinking about them (turning on your car's blinker when you're turning, for instance). But we are now faced with a plethora of other decisions that never-before existed, and it can be overwhelming, if not plain confusing. Where we could once only order coffee with cream or sugar, we now must choose, whether we like it or not, among hundreds, if not thousands, of coffee variations.

And our brains may not be ready to keep up. "The trouble with our brains", says decision researcher Peter Ayton from the Society for Judgment and Decision Making, "is that they were designed to survive in the relatively simple environment of the African Savannah, thousands of years ago."

Today, it will no longer suffice just to know whether or not to run from an angry lion. To make it in today's jungle, you must become a skilled decision maker.

How to Eliminate Indecisiveness with Skillful Decisions

There is no shortage of graduate level business courses designed to teach you how to make decisions, and the processes can get rather complex. You could easily devote a significant amount of time to honing this skill (but you'll have to decide if you should or not).

In the meantime, here are some basic techniques to help you make better decisions and, maybe, become less indecisive while you're at it.

1. List your options. Write down all the possible outcomes of your decision, but don't evaluate them at this point.

2. If necessary, gather information about the decision by researching or asking friends and family.

3. Read over your options and think about how they make you feel. Eliminate any that evoke no response from you.

4. Recognize how each option makes you feel. If a choice is obviously bad, eliminate it, but otherwise keep all options open at this point.

5. Determine your desired outcome. What would you like to see happen from this decision?

6. Evaluate your options and choose which are most likely to help you reach your desired outcome.

7. Make the decision. Choose the option that seems to fit best.

8. Accept your decision fully. Don't allow yourself to question whether you made the right choice. Instead, be optimistic and do all you can to help your decision meet your desired outcome.

Afraid to Make a Mistake?

Don't Be Afraid to Make a Mistake
By Deb Melton

“Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life." ~Sophia Loren

"I never make stupid mistakes. Only very, very clever ones". ~John Peel

It has been my experience that the fear of making a mistake is one of the main ways people keep themselves from living to the fullest, from living outrageously. Yet what is a mistake, really? Who says it is a mistake?

A mistake is something that we, or someone else, judges as wrong, either the wrong action, the wrong course to take or the wrong interpretation or the wrong understanding of something. And so what! Many times what we label as a mistake is simply that we tried something and found that it didn't work out the way we hoped.

One of my clients said, "It was a mistake to get involved with her in the first place." “But was it really?” I asked. "Well, I did not enjoy it in the end and after a few months I broke it off in frustration." he replied. “Ok, so how else could you look at it?” I asked him. "I guess I could say I found out that she really didn’t meet my requirements.

In fact I learned about a new requirement that I didn’t know I had." Yeah! And that is great information that you can take and use to help you make a better choice.

Is the fear of making a mistake keeping you from doing something you want? Is it keeping you from going anywhere, with anyone you want? What if you were willing to let go of wanting things to turn out a certain way? What if you decided it was ok to have an outcome that you did not expect?

How could your life or your relationships be fuller or richer if you were willing to look foolish from time to time in an effort to experience more?

Sometimes people do not pursue activities or relationships because they ask, "Why bother? I don't know if it will lead to anything in the end." What are they really saying here? Perhaps they are saying, "Well I don't want to put out the effort if I am not going to get the result I want." That is simply an excuse to not put one's self fully into the activity or the relationship.

What could happen if you did put yourself 100% into the experience and let go of any attachment to the outcome? What if you were willing to go for it in spite of fear? What if you were willing to do whatever it takes to find the relationship you really want? In other words, what if you were not afraid of making a mistake? When you let go of your judgments of how a thing has to be, you may be surprised at what can happen.

Tackle Success Smartly

You Don't Have To Be The Sharpest Tool In The Box Or Have The Highest IQ By Craig Dawber

Something I learnt a long time ago in high school was that I was not the sharpest tool in the box or the most happening thing around. I have a confession to make that I am a normal intelligent human being and there are many like me in this world.

You have to be very intelligent and have a high IQ to score well in your exams and go on to a degree. Also you need to have huge amount of enthusiasm and energy to set high standards in everything that you do, if you want to be the best.

But if you do not have the highest of IQ or greatest enthusiasm for doing things, then you need to handle and tackle the issue of your success smartly.

· Seek the company of business people who are smarter and more successful than you. Study them, if possible talk to them, see and observe what they do and learn their formulae of success. And apply the same formulae in your life.

· Look for people who are actually doing what your goals are and what you want to do and then follow in their footsteps and do just as they are doing, in fact model their success, and success will be yours as well.

· Have a mentor who will guide you either consciously by advising you or you can also have a mentor, without him knowing that you take guidance from his actions. You can have more than one mentor to model. Have as many mentors as your goals are. You can follow different mentors for different goals.

· Follow the history of the success of your mentor or guide, in the same sequence of steps that he took by following all the tasks. And you are likely to meet the same kind of success.

Follow a mentor or a guide to your success is a reasonably dependable way to learn the path to success. It increases your enthusiasm and motivation for doing tasks at hand, because you can, in a way see the outcome of the action taken, as you are following tin the footsteps of your mentor.

Discovery Helps Your Energy

Great Discovery Helps You Gain Energy
By Maria Boomhower

"People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents." –Andrew Carnegie, Industrialist

When we are tired, it is hard to communicate. Our thinking cells don’t function and even if we try to continue, the effort and results will be mediocre at best.

It is important to realize that our energy levels are affected by the state of our emotions. And our emotions are a result of our perceptions on our outlook on the events of our lives. (Reread that if needed and let it sink in)

Emotional energy is the preconception we have for everything. You see we can get into assumptions on how thing are going and how they will turn out. If we believe that things will turn out badly, we act in accordance to that belief. The reverse is also true.

Author Mira Kirshenbaum, author of THE EMOTIONAL ENERGY FACTOR wrote about how our emotions dictate our energy level.

"It is estimated that a whopping 70% of our energy comes from our emotional state of mind as apposed to the food we eat or the exercise that we do."

Our positive emotions of love, joy, excitement, compassion, create energy within us. These are the driving forces that can help us excel in our accomplishments. They enable us to create and implement more ideas and inspire us to do more. They attract other successful people to us and radiate potential.

Whereas negative emotions such as anger, hatred, fear, worry anxiety etc. drain us of our energy. The literately zap and drain us of our abilities to change whatever we do not like. They can stop us in our tracks from moving forward. This leaves us with little more energy then to just sit and complain about the world rather than being part of the change. AND, this attracts other complainers with little or no energy.

To increase your emotional energy, you need to look at two things.

1. Know what it is that drains you; (learn to avoid them)
a. Life situations
b. Toxic people
c. Habits of worry, guilt, fear, indecision, envy
d. Unfinished business; whether its cleaning, paper work or clearing the air

2. Know what it is that fills you (and give yourself more)
a. Prayer
b. Meditation
c. Hobbies
d. Walks or reading

Several authors from different backgrounds have written on the benefits of prayer and meditation for improving your emotions and energy. They have pointed out how tests have shown that people who take care of their souls have found the secret of high voltage people.

This does not mean attending church once a week and believing that, that is all there is. It is about connecting at the level of your being, living your truth and connecting with your higher power.

They state that there is a positive cycle that goes like this: Prayer gives emotional energy = Emotional energy helps you take action = Actions makes good things happen

Greg Braden explains that scientific experiments show that time is not linear (From the Isaiah Effect), that besides past, present, & future, it also has depth. The depth consists of all possible prayers. Essentially, all of our prayers have been answered and we activate the ones that we live through our feelings. Through this, we create our reality; the choice through feelings connects the web of creation with all of the energy and matter of the Universe.

This message is being repeated over and over by countless authours, speakers, philosophers and quantum physicists that feelings and emotions have been the missing key ingredient in achieving what we desire. In past, we have become good at getting what we don’t want, because many people only use feelings when it comes to be angry, fearful, mad or anxious. Where as if we can use positive emotion energy when thinking about what we do want, we will attract the life we desire. Moreover, we will have the energy to go after it.

So ask yourself, where is my emotional energy, and what is it doing to me?

Your thoughts are like a boomerang. Your judgments and unforgiving thoughts will most certainly return and whack you in the back of the head. - From, Smile for No Good Reason by Lee L. Jampolsky, Ph.D.

P.S. If you like what you're reading in this article, you'll love the ebook,
"Perceptions"-"Dare to discover what is beyond your filters." It's an interactive manual that takes you through the steps to help you overcome challenges in communicating and connecting with others.

Lack Confidence?

Does Lack of Confidence Stop You?
by Jo Ball

Ever had the sense that there is more to life than you're experiencing?

Ever felt that there's more out there for you to do, but never been quite sure of what that is? Or maybe you know what you need to do, but have been putting it off because you lacked the confidence to take the chance.

One of the biggest things in our way of exploring this path is our necessity to pay our bills. This usually means staying in a job or career that no longer fulfils us for a little while. usually forty years!

Another block to changing life might be your upbringing - maybe a parent who tells you that you need to stick with what you know - or a spouse who'd prefer you to stay the way you are and not follow your dreams, or friends who think that anything other than what you've been doing for the last few years is odd.

It can be quite scary to reach out for your truth. By your truth I mean your life purpose. What's more, those around you might find it quite scary too - that's why they try to put you off doing it. I mean can you imagine their faces if you suddenly became crystal clear, not only that you were going to change your life, but also knew how.

Imagine how powerful it would sound to them. Imagine the example you would make when you succeed. Imagine their faces then!

Living your Life Purpose is more than a career, but since you spend so much time earning money it is a key element.

The biggest hint I can give you to finding Life Purpose through work is to search for something you feel a deep pull and an undoubted passion towards. When you find that, many things will happen.

You're health will improve. You'll work longer, faster and harder than ever and love it. You'll smile and laugh more and become a people magnet as you become more interesting and fun to be around.

Your confidence will literally skyrocket.

Begin by finding your unique gift and then explore how you can use that in a distinctive way to help others improve their lives.

Best Wishes

Chooser vs. Choosee . . .

Chooser vs. Choosee: The Power of Choice
By Ken Donaldson

You can't expect to prevent negative feelings altogether. And you can't expect to experience positive feelings all the time. The Law of Emotional Choice directs us to acknowledge our feelings but also to refuse to get stuck in the negative ones. ~ Greg Anderson, American author

Chooser and choosee...run them through your word-processing program and you are likely to have them rejected by your spell-check.

Why? Because chooser, although in Webster’s Dictionary, is a seldom used term, and choosee is not even a word in our language. However, regardless of the validity and frequency of these words, the dynamics and pay-offs of you being either the chooser or the choosee are huge.

When you are the chooser you live a powerful life of choice. You know who you are, what is important, what is not allowed, and what is healthy. When you live by choice you never settle.

Whereas the choosee gives their power away and allows others to make their choices for them. Choosees settle and are often in very dependent relationships. Knowing and using three empowering dynamics of choice will give you the power to create and live the life of your choice.

The first dynamic is that of boundaries. When you know what is acceptable and what is not, you have clear boundaries. When you have clear boundaries, choice-making is easy because you know what does and does not work for you.

Assignment #1: Make a list of at least 10 “deal-breakers”, meaning 10 absolutely, positively unacceptable behaviors from others into your life. Then, live by these boundaries and make no exceptions…make powerful choices from your boundaries.

The next dynamic is values. Knowing what it is that is important to you is synonymous with knowing your values. When you live and choose in accordance with your values you live in integrity and wholeness.

Assignment #2: Make a list of what is most important in your life. Add these to your previous list of deal-breakers. Hold yourself accountable to live by these values and make choices from these values. In doing so, you will, again, find yourself making powerful choices.

The third and final dynamic is that of balance. When you live with a “balance attitude” you have an awareness of making healthy choices. Many health (both physical and emotional) issues are caused by a lack of balance. By choosing to have a life balance awareness, you live a powerful and healthy life.

Assignment #3: List 10 indicators of you being out of balance, and another 10 indicators of you being in balance. Add these items to your list from assignments #1 and #2. You have created your foundation of powerful choice...Live according to this and you will be a powerful chooser.

Boundaries, values, and balance…these are the essential cornerstones to your empowering choice-making life. Share your list with your life coach and your support system. Ask them to hold you accountable to it. Work it and refine it. Live by it…choose from it…and don’t leave home without it!!!

Remember Their Courage

Remember Their Courage

Remembrance Day - Lest We Forget . . .

It is Remembrance Day in Canada and Britain today. Veteran's Day in the U.S. We specifically set this day aside to remember the veterans who did not come home from the wars.

Remember them well for there is an element in this world which would take from us that which is most dear, our personal FREEDOM.

We remember all the men and women of the Allied Forces, in all of those countries that joined together to preserve our way of life. We remember them that fought for us, and many of them would never come home.

I salute those who lost their lives so that our freedoms could go on.

There have been many wars in the last century, and during any one of them, we were at risk, we were vulnerable to people who do not think the way we do.

The people to whom violence and power struggles are a way of life, the way to get what they want without regard for others' needs. They take what they want, and they kill to get it. We must always be on guard against this type of threat.

Those who have died in the service of our country all had "lives" outside of the service, loved ones, family members, friends just like us. They never came back to them.

This day has great significance for me as I totally respect those women and men who serve in the armed forces. They stand somewhere on a wall, or a fenceline, on ships, or in aircraft, or supporting those who do, diligently protecting our way of life from those who would take it from us.

They sacrifice their "lives" on a daily basis so that we can go on with ours. And, some of them will end up giving the ultimate sacrifice of their life standing guard for us today or tomorrow. I can only imagine what fears they might be fighting and breaking through, so that they can do their jobs.

Yes, today I remember those who have served and lost their lives, and I praise those who are still protecting us! God Bless our fallen veterans and our present armed forces service men and women, for without them now, there are still those who would try to take what we have.

Action Step - Remember that freedom is not free, there is always a price to pay. Remember those who have sacrificed so much, sometimes they made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we live free today.

And, spend some time reflecting on how we can make sure that we live our lives freely and fully, so that we honor and respect what they have fought so hard to give us.

Break Through Fear Forever!

Fear! - How Do You Break Through It?

Anyone interested in learning how to break through Fear? . . . . . .

Two ways I employ to get me through `fear' and some other trying emotions!

1. Affirmation: "Thy will be done Lord."; or "It's Karma."; or "Whatever happens, I'll handle it, and I am stronger for it."
2. Repeat whatever part of # 1 that works for you.

Oooohhh! Ouch!!! Did I say that . . . ?

Sermon coming! Some might want to skip the following 3 paragraphs.

All kidding aside, I realize that I am not in control, `really'. Once I set myself on a course, I separate or detach emotionally from the outcome. My faith keeps me sane through all the challenges that come my way.

When I am confronting `fear', I always remember that what doesn't kill me makes me stronger, so afterwards, either I will be stronger for my challenges, or I won't be around anyway. Heh, Heh!

In my daily actions, I find that I accomplish more when I pray as if it is all up to God, and I work as if it is all up to me. This seems to get the best results, and helps me to keep my focus where it should be, on what I want to have happen! And I always remember that what I am after might need an incubation period longer than what I'd like, it might not happen on my time schedule. Yes, Go after it -- and then let go, emotionally.

Sometimes we have so much of ourselves invested in the process, we feel crushed if what we want doesn't appear immediately. I am reminded of one of Dr Robert Schuller's quotations -- God's delays are not God's denials. Persist until . . . you might just be facing a test of faith.

I haven't felt intense fear for a very long time. I sometimes think that I have numbed myself to it's effects from having felt so much fear in my younger years. Or maybe, I am not being completely honest with myself, or I am not looking deep enough. I mean enduring fear, not the kind that pops up from startling circumstances, or fleeting thoughts.

Also, I think that we must be careful what labels we use to describe our feelings. At times we might use the `fear' label for an emotion that could be labeled, `uncertainty', or 'nervous'. We cannot stop ideas or thoughts from entering our minds, but we certainly can control what we do with them once they pop in there!

Anyone who is leading an active life, and is growing personally, will be uncertain at times. We tend to be uncertain about those things we have never done, or have never come across. However, once we take action to accumulate the knowledge necessary for it's accomplishment, and start `doing' it, the feeling turns into possibility and
certainty.

And so, how do you handle fear? Does it IMMOBILIZE you or does it MOBILIZE you? It's your choice. Allow your fear to empower you and move through it to take new action. Remember, 100% of the shots you don't take will not go in.

Al Smith, Copyright 2005

* Disclaimer: This is not to discount that portion of the population that have real problems with `fear', phobias and such, and professional help should be sought. I am in no way addressing that kind of situation at this level.

Action Step - Detach emotionally, concentrate only on what you are doing to bring your goal into fruition.

Detach from the outcome emotionally. Once you set into action, accept the fact that you are doing the best you can with the resources you have, whatever result occurs. Know that no matter what happens, you will handle it, and you will be stronger for it.

Test yourself today on some small matter which has been preventing you from getting what you want. You know which one I am talking about. It is the one that has been bothering you for some time, and up until now you couldn't get past it. That's the one to take action on.

Focus on the positive 'what ifs' instead of the negative and be ready to adjust your strategies. Whatever happens, you can always go to Plan 'B' or Plan 'C' alternate action steps.

See you tomorrow. Go For It.

Face Fear With 'I Cans'

FACING DOWN THE FEAR OF FAILURE OR REJECTION WITH SOME UNCANNY "CAN'S" by Georgia Ana Larson

We've all had the experience of being afraid of people and new situations in which we might experience some sort of failure, of dreading having to approach and speak to strangers and having them reject us, of shaking in our boots at the thought of trying to speak clearly and persuasively in front of others in order to present a product or idea.

None of us want to fail, to experience rejection or to be laughed at. That's only natural. But allowing these fears to dominate your thinking can keep you from succeeding as a work-from-home business person.

Here is a reality-based approach to limiting the degree to which those fears can dominate your thinking or defeat your efforts to promote your business, products or ideas.

First, make certain that you know why you're doing what you're doing. I'm talking about your bottom-line motivation here: the smiling faces of your family, the thought of providing for them and yourself well into retirement, the thought of being able to spend more time with them doing things you all enjoy doing, the thought of traveling with your partner or children, of paying for college educations and weddings and business expansions.

You know what I mean -- your real, bottom-line WHY.

Second, concentrate on what you want to accomplish -- intentional planning, I suppose. I find that if I have set goals for myself that others can block -- like making so many dollars profit in the next 6 hours or selling so many cases of product -- I can get pretty frustrated when other folks don't "make my dreams come true."

Instead, I intentionally focus on objectives that depend upon me alone. My fear and frustration levels will be lower and my openness to others can be greater as I do this.

With focused purpose, I identify the actions and attitudes that are under my control:

*I can show up as prepared and full of energy as possible.

*I can reach out to others, offering wonderful products and opportunities and ideas and give my deliberate attention to each of them as people, not as objects. (People can always tell if you're really interested in them or only interested in closing a sale.)

*I can refuse to demand anything in return of those to whom I reach out. I will not waste my energy on expectations over which I have no control.

*I can be positive with others, relying on the quality of what I'm offering and my personal attention as enough to win over those who can be won over. (Remember others can have things going on in their lives that are so negative and/or hurtful that no amount of sales persuasion will work.

It may even backfire as the energy you try to extend is repulsed with even more negativity. A calm, persistently positive spirit is called for here. You may be the only positive input some folks have in a given circumstance -- that alone will make you memorable.)

*I can maximize my opportunities for future contacts with those to whom I am offering my products. I can give out samples and business cards (with a smile and a kind word!) and offer information and friendly conversation.

*I can have the consistent expectation that the customers I need will come my way, that the contacts that are important will show up because I have also shown up in this positive, open way. Let's face it, if your fear of rejection has left you closed to interactions with new folks, they're likely to pick up on that and avoid you, too.

*I can remain open to learning everything, absolutely everything, I can learn from the environment, the experience, the customers, the other people around me, etc. Some of the contacts I've made and some of the ideas that have come to me as a consequence of facing these situations have helped me in ways I could never have calculated or expected beforehand.

Do I also set hopeful objectives about sales, prospects, responses to my ideas, etc.? You betcha. But I keep in mind that only my part is really under my control. When I concentrate on what I can do rather than on what other people might do, I have less of a concern about failure -- and so come away from the experience feeling positive and without any sense of having failed at all, even if my ideal goals were not achieved in that circumstance.

This kind of intentional concentration on the positive, fun, outreach aspects of your business can have benefits in many areas of your life. Don't let "what-if-they-reject-me" thinking rob you of any of the joy possible to you. Instead, imagine people walking away from you with the idea that yours must be a positive product or idea or opportunity because you're such a positive person.

Now, who could ever think of that as anything but being a real success?

Fear - Positive or Negative?

Fear Emotions - Are they Positive or Negative? What is fear's purpose? How do you handle it?

While I am working in my pest control business, I meet people on an almost daily basis who are influenced by negative fear thoughts regarding pests invading their premises. A good size spider, rat, or unexpected insect can set someone off pretty quickly, and literally immobilize them. It consumes their thoughts to the point where they have trouble thinking about anything else.

Thinking about why people do this, makes me wonder about the purpose of Fear emotions. I really started wondering as to how many people really do allow Fear, anxiety, worry, etc. to freeze them into inaction in everyday life. They achieve a very negative result, one which I have to think, is not what they really want.

Fear - What is it's purpose? Do you let a fear immobilize you or do you act in spite of it, safely, consciously aware of why it is there?

Personally, I look upon fear as a positive emotion. I know that uncontrolled this emotion can breed many negative results. But when controlled, this emotion can spur you into action like no other I know of. And I think that this is truly the reason for fear. Think of it as your best friend, preparing you for progress. Make friends with the unknown.

We should acknowledge the fear we are experiencing. Allow that it is a natural and positive thing within us that warns us of some impending danger or harm. And then, analyze it to see if it is real or imagined, justified or not. When we recognize it's positive intent, it is no longer something to immobilize us, but quite the reverse, we can jump into action to remedy 'why' we are fearful.

I think that it is the inaction bred by over-analyzing, by focusing on the fear, actually dwelling on it, imagining the 'what ifs', that keeps us from taking the actions necessary to move though it. We need to process it, not dwell in it. I'm sure everyone has heard the old expression, 'A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave person, only one.' We do not want to hold the FEAR thought. That is not what it is there for.

As long as we focus on the positive intent a fearful state represents, rather on the fear itself, we can question ourselves as to what this fear is trying to tell us to do, and take the necessary actions to protect ourselves or blast us though this perceived barrier.

All we have to know is, `What is really going on here?' What do I need to do in order for me to feel better about moving forward? Or do I really need to back off from this course? Do I need to take another smaller action (baby step) or do I just need to change my perception about what is going on here?

Then, move forward in some direction no matter how small a step it seems. Usually just taking action and the momentum you gain and feel, will free you from the fearful, concerned, worried feeling you had.

Do you have something bothering you, or something you have been putting off, or dreading? Something you know you must do, but just haven't been able to face up to the task? Break it down until there is something you can move forward with. Take it in baby steps, take action. Do it and then celebrate the victory! Feel your confidence grow!

Your mind can only hold one thought at a time. Make it an action thought that empowers you.

This is only one person's opinion, but I feel it is better to believe in something beneficial that I can take control, rather than be at it's mercy!

Al Smith, Copyright 2005

Action Step - Take charge. Accept the fear and feel it, understand why it is there, and then move through it. I'll go further into this subject on Thursday.

See you tomorrow. Go For It.

Economics 101: The Beginnings

I found this article in the business section of the articles bank, but the information seemed pertinent to character traits found in all successful individuals of all walks of life. I found it to be an entertaining way to look at personal development. There are a few success principles at work here. Can you find them?

Economics 101: The Beginnings
By John T Jones, Ph.D.

It all started when Uri (some say, "Uro") lost his leg after an injury incurred during an early spring hunt. He was gored by a mastodon. If it were not for Oldred, The Witch, he’d be dead.

He could no longer move at the speed of the clan hunters.

No hunter trusted Uri with the women while they were out on the hunt. The clan decided to sent Uri packing with two young clan women and his teenage son who everyone called for short "Ugly" which in clan language meant "Boy, is he ugly!"

There was no proof that Uri was the father of Ugly, but it was a pretty good guess because of Ugly’s thick red hair and buck teeth.

Ugly fished and hunted to supply food to the foursome. But Uri sired several children and Ugly could not supply enough food to keep everyone in tip top shape. Uri realized that his little sub clan would perish if he did nothing. He sent Ugly back to the clan with the women and children. This all occurred between 130007 and 130012 before Ziglo the Idiot.

Uri traveled south until he found a better climate and sufficient food and water for his needs. He found an uninhabited valley near the river called “The Big River." He fished and dug roots and caught some small animals in traps and snares.

One spring Uri caught some young rabbits. He had made a big mistake in building a trap. It did not kill the rabbit but caught it alive.

Uri built a cage for the rabbits by weaving reeds from the bank of The Big River. At first he fed his bunnies by pushing grass into the cage, but he learned he could take the rabbits out of the cage and let them feed at his feet. They never ran too far away and they always came back.

Uri was a strong observer as were all proto-humans at that time. He noticed that some of the grain from grain-yielding grasses he fed the rabbits fell under the rabbit cage. That was where the "raisins” from the rabbits fell too. The newly seeded under-gage grasses grew taller than those which grew wild.

Uri spread rabbit "raisins" in some of the areas where the wild grain grasses grew. After all, he soon had many rabbits and plenty of rabbit raisins. He got a higher grain yield than from wild grass.

One day Ugly visited Uri. He saw that Uri had rabbit meat, grain, and rabbit fur. Uri looked very great in his rabbit-fur sports coat.

Ugly saw that survival was possible living with Uri. Uri said he could bring the women and children back to live with him. He told Ugly, "I don't have to hunt for rabbits anymore. I raise them by the gritchfuds!"

The women were good at making tightly woven baskets. Zeegla could make pots by rolling clay into long snakelike strips on the inside of her bare thighs. (Ugly liked to watch her do this.) She could build a pot by circling one strip on top of another and then molding everything together with her wet hands. Zeegla made the clay hard by first drying the pots and then building a fire over the top of them. She decorated the pots too, so you could sit and look at them all day.

The containers kept the rodents out of the grain.

Uri became famous. Hunters came to him to trade furs for grain or live rabbits (which they could carry home without spoiling). Although, the clan had been cave dwellers, they knew how to make temporary shelters from whatever was available. Sometimes they built such shelters when they visitied Uro. Uri strengthened some of these shelters and used them to store grain and skins.

Gradually clan members left the clan and moved to live with Uri. It was Oldred, the witch, who suggested a structure large enough for clan meetings and séances. At the Moon of the Harvest she could do her Saber Tooth Tiger Dance.

The building was called "The Big Building." It was made with long flexible limbs completely covered with stretched rabbit hides. It was something to see.

The Big Building attracted hunters from far and wide. Many moved into the community. Ugly handled the daily affairs of the community while Uri though up new ways to survive in that harsh world.

One day one of the children, Duonohandsome, son of Ugly, yelled, "Grandpa! Something is coming up the The Big River!"

Uri saw that it was a canoe bigger than any he had ever seen. When the boat arrived, he could see that the men were very tall and didn't look like the clan people at all. They spoke a strange language that Uri could not understand. However Uri, being too old and crippled to fight these creatures, decided to feed them instead.

To Uri's surprise, the visitors gave him a metal sword, several pieces of gold, and a travel guide to Norway. They also gave him a drink that made him feel tipsy and they told him how to make it from grain. (What a bonanza! They had many a party in The Big Building.)

The visitors left with a buddle of rabbits, grain, pots, and baskets. That was not the end of it. They came back at the same time every year.

The visitors were Vikings of course. They were the first to discovery everything. They called Uri’s community, "Primitive Place on the River" which in Old Norse is ósjaldan atseta hvílð. (See http://www.utexas.edu/cola/depts/lrc/eieol/norol-EI-X.html)

Can We Change The Past?

A New Past
by Kathy Gates, Copyright 2005

We hear all the time that we need to let go of the past because we can’t do anything to change it. And that’s true. What’s happened has happened.

But what if you think about the past in a different way? For example, the past is not just what happened when you were in college, or your first marriage. It is also what happened last month, last week, yesterday, this morning.

So you are literally creating “the past” all the time -- with every minute that passes. Why is that important? Because the best indicator of what your future will look like is your past - your past attitudes, your past choices, your past actions.

But here’s the good news -- a “new past” can be created by using the present. A new past can be created by making different choices in the present.

For example --

If you’ve always kept your credit cards maxed-out, but instead you choose to say no to credit card debt now, tomorrow, next week, and for the next year, then you have successfully changed your past from being a maxed-out-credit-card-debtor to someone with no credit card debt.

You have changed your past.

If in the past you have been a 7 day a week junk food eater, and instead you say no to junk food 4 out of 7 days for the next year, you have successfully changed your junk food eater label.

You have changed your past.

If you have always been a procrastinator with your taxes, and instead you decide to get caught up and stay caught up with your taxes, you have successfully changed your past. You were once a tax procrastinator, now you are not.

You have changed your past.

We’ve all known people who have changed. Sometimes radically, like from a drug problem to a drug counselor. Or perhaps like in the movies from a street-walker to a soccer-mom on the PTA.

Your new past may not be as dramatic (or maybe it will!). But the point is that when you create a new past, you also create your future. So if a great future is what you’re looking for, start with the past. Change your past, and you’ll automatically change your future.

Developing Your Courage

Four Keys to Developing Your Courage
By Dr. Janette Marie Freeman

Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the strength to be who and what you are -- despite the fear! Here are steps we can take to develop courage and let go of the fears that stop us from achieving our goals.

1. Recognize the fear. Don’t make excuses and call it something else.

You cannot overcome or move through your fear if you don’t recognize it as such. You can blame someone else, you can call it impossible or you can just admit that you are afraid. Once you admit that fear is operating, you can begin to change it.

2. Gain understanding from the fear. What am I basing this fear on? Choose to see a deeper truth.

We experience fear when we believe the lies that our ego is telling us. We believe what we have accepted as truth either consciously or unconsciously. What do you believe as true?

There is a story about a family that would get together for holidays and special occasions and fix a roast of beef. Each time they would make it they would prepare it the same way. They would take the roast and cut off on both ends and place it in the pan.

This was a tradition that was handed down from mother to daughter to daughter, etc., until finally one day, one of the daughter’s husbands asked her, "Why do you cut off both ends of the roast?"

She replied that her mother had always done it that way, "Let’s go ask her." And so they went and asked her mother, and she replied that it was because that’s the way her mother had always done it.

They decided to ask grandma. When they asked her, she replied, "Because that’s the way my mother always did it. I don’t do it that way any more; we only did it that way because the pan was too small to hold it."

See the untruth in the fear that you have held. What rules have you set for yourself? Do you want to keep living by them? You are the chooser.

3. Commit to Courage. Declare the deeper truth. Persistently reprogram yourself for success and courageous actions. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

4. Face the fear. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Honor your courage. Take action.

- Honor yourself every time you face a fear. Especially the little ones.

- Courage is built one success at a time. You are successful every time you try!
