Aligning Work & Life Purpose

Aligning Work with Your Life Purpose
By Debra Thorsen

If you are doing work that is right for you, you will get energy from your work. Sunday nights and Monday mornings will be joyous and you will know that your head and your heart are in sync.

Often my coaching clients' passions and interests are completely unrelated to the work they are performing. Well, that's why they call it work, right? Wrong! I believe that our work is our greatest opportunity to express ourselves in this world. Work, if aligned with our true selves, can be the purest form of self-expression.

Work as Duty

Too often, we let our "shoulds" guide us down the conventional career path and then at mid-career we wake up and think, "how did I get here?". Every time I feel a "should" creeping into my thinking - I need to stop and be aware of where this "should" is coming from. Most of our "shoulds" we pick up from other people - our parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, and others. Rarely is a "should" an authentic guide to what will bring us happiness or fulfillment in life. I recommend living by the saying "don't should on me".

Work as Energy

I also believe that we incorrectly view our jobs from a limited viewpoint that doesn't understand how energy flows in the universe. I will work 40 hours and receive $$$$. Our goals is often to work the least amount of time possible for the most amount of money.

Work is really a giving activity. It is a path of service. I give 100% of myself and talents. I give unselfishly of my energy. And I receive energy in return in the form of money. In this viewpoint, our goal is to provide the most value possible, knowing that the universe will match our energy in return.

I have a coaching client who has decided to go to graduate school and get her masters degree. She is trying to decide between two programs. One is a more traditional program that will prepare her for a myriad of corporate jobs when she graduates. The other program will set her on a path to be a freelancer. She knows that her heart is not in the first program, but feels it is her "safer" option. She is afraid to choose the unconventional program.

Follow Your Heart to Discover Meaningful Work

Why are we so afraid to follow our hearts and pursue our bliss? Why have so many of us lost our inner compass? One reason is the over-intellectualization of our culture. Ever since the Scientific Revolution, we have favored our intellect over our intuition. The Scientific Revolution has definitely improved the quality of life for many people and has freed us from some destructive superstitions, but at what price? I'm not going to address this question at the macro level (environmental issues, distribution of wealth, etc.) but at the individual micro level.

Our society and its educational institutions teach us to live in our heads. We favor our rational intellects and many of us are disconnected from our hearts and bodies. Without this connection, it is difficult to use our inner compass to chart our life course and follow our bliss. I work with my clients to integrate the head, heart, and body so that they are functioning holistically from their body-minds.

I worked with one woman who wanted to find work that she was passionate about. She told me, "I just need to sit down and think about this some more." And therein lay her trap. We often believe that if we just think harder about something, a solution will present itself.

When it comes to finding work you are passionate about, the answer will not come from your rational, logical brain - it will come from your heart and soul. To connect with your heart and soul, you need to be able to access your emotions and body sensations in real-time and connect them to your thoughts.

If you don't believe me, then think of peak moments in your life - moments when you felt happy, blissful, relaxed, energized - like all was well with the world. Where did this feeling come from? Your head or your heart?

To discover meaningful work, you need to connect with your heart by paying attention to your emotions. Dismiss any shoulds that appear. And pursue work from a path of service, knowing that this is the legacy you will leave to future generations.

The Four Rules To . . .

The Four Rules To Lead An Extraordinary Life
(c) Emmanuel SEGUI - All Rights reserved
http://www.vision-to-action.com

Everybody can lead an extraordinary life. There is no better time to live your dreams. Knowledge is abundant. The World Wide Web is filled up with billions of pages of information. Libraries contain thousands of books on every topic possible and you can attend seminars all around the world about many different subjects.

To live an extraordinary life, you need to focus and follow these 4 rules.

1. Find Your Passion.

You have unique talents and God-given gifts. Your job is to discover them. Make a list of the things you always would have liked to do but just never found the time to work on it. What are your hobbies? Begin by studying something you're curious about. This curiosity may turn into a passion.

Once you've discovered it, ask yourself the following question: "How can I make a living out of it?" This is the exact strategy that self-made millionaires and successful people followed.

Finding, following and living your passion will allow you to lead an extraordinary life.

2. Create Your Vision.

Create a strategic plan by beginning to define and clarify your vision. Defining your vision can take a month, clarifying it can take several years. But the more your vision is accurate, the more you will attract people, opportunities, and money that will help you reach your vision.

The clearer your vision is, the more every part of you, as a human being, is involved: your physical body, your emotions, your mind and your spirit. And this becomes a heartfelt commitment and a creative excitement.

3. Learn the Power of Discipline.

Discipline is essential as well as hard work. Living a balanced life is at the heart of successful people's teachings. Discipline will let you become more focused on what's important to realize your dreams and live an extraordinary life.

Discipline is a key factor for entrepreneurs. And you're one of them because you decided to find your purpose and live your passion. Only this way will you be able to reach you ultimate vision.

4. Live by Integrity.

In a survey of over 54,000 people, they identified the essential qualities of an effective leader. Integrity was, by far, the number one response. Your level of success in life will directly be proportioned to your level of integrity.

Theodore Roosevelt said: "Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike." Integrity is living an integrated life around your values or principles.

Integrity is to take good care of your physical body, your emotional intelligence, your mental health and your spirit. When one is neglected, the others don't function as well and you lose your character.

When you live your passion according to your unique given talents and you create a vision of what you want out of life, you're not far from realizing your dreams. But something is still missing.

You need discipline to make every moment count so every day can be one more day closer to your goal. Live by integrity in all you do and success is assured.

Soon you will see all the doors of opportunities open before you.

One Focus To Success

One Focus To Success
by Al Smith

Too many times we are distracted from our main goal and purpose by all of the different things out there that we want, or think we want. Instead of making choices, we seem to want it all, everything we come across. Too many conflicting desires is a recipe for disaster.

With every goal which does not align with our main definite goal or purpose, our percentage chance to achieve it goes down. With dilution, our focus and concentration lose strength, and we lose momentum with each direction change.

Another potential downside to having too many goals and not attaining them, is the potential negative hit to our self image. This could be disempowering in the long term if not put into it's proper perspective.

So what do we do? Hold our desires in check? Forget about all those other things we want?

No way! Never isolate yourself from your desires. Bond with them, make them important, and "do or die" - "what ever it takes". You can happily move towards their achievement. Timing and Strategy may change but the goal is in the bank.

First thing to do right now is DECIDE that wanting more is OK. This is a very human thing and it drives progress.

Napoleon Hill stated that 'The Master Key To Riches' was the development of a burning desire for the achievement of a major definite purpose. (loosely quoted, but this is true)'

Riches' do not just include money or things, but everything that enriches our lives, and this is different for everyone.

Now to take 'Nappy' literally, one would have to have a single focus that they would develop into a Magnificent Obsession, again nothing negative about this.

If you want several different things all at once, and if you do not have a plan for their attainment, then, it is likely that it will split your focus in too many directions, and you will achieve none of them.

However . . . if you connect them up by going after a single massive undertaking which when achieved gets you all of the above, then your focus would be laser sharp and your concentration would be unbroken. And you would have all of the objects of your desire!

Now, if you do not have a Single Massive All Encompassing Focus, then, a substitute plan would be to list all that you want on paper. Then, start arranging them in order of importance to you. Most important on top, least important on bottom.

Decide what is most important to you. If that is difficult, then start eliminating those goals you can do without. (eliminate them just like those reality shows do) You will be left by default with the most important goal to go after. As for the others, Go after them one at a time.

Either way you will come out with a single focus so that you can plan a strategy to attain it. And your power will be centered and your momentum will build towards achieving what you want.

Take it for what it's worth . . .

7 Tips to Reduce Holiday Stress

7 Tips to Save Time & Reduce Holiday Stress
By Kathy Paauw

"My dad used to say that the holidays are when you get a whole bunch of people that really aren’t that close and don’t know each other that well and overcrowd them into a small room for an extended period of time so they can make each other miserable." -- Dr. Phil McGraw

As we approach the holiday season, that sense of "overwhelm" rings as loud as the Salvation Army bells.

For some, the holiday season represents stress, pressure, expectations, guilt, disappointment, pain, loneliness, exhaustion … and the list goes on.

And it doesn't have to be that way!

We choose who we spend time with. We choose what activities we say yes and no to. We choose where we go. Your holiday season can be as simple or as elaborate as you choose to make it, and it can be a lot of fun if you plan accordingly.

Take some time this week to think about what's most important to you this season, and then do a little planning. Here are some suggestions to help save time and reduce stress.

1. Create a list of holiday rituals that are important to you.

Seek your family's input on holiday decisions. Ask family members what they liked and disliked about last year's holidays. Write down the most important elements and activities you wish to include this year, and plan to make it happen.

Keeping time-consuming and irrelevant traditions or rituals "just because we've always done it that way" can increase stress. Keep only those traditions that have meaning to you, or create some new ones.

Give yourself permission to be in the moment and enjoy the smells, sounds, feel, and tastes that are unique to this season of the year.

2. Make a list of those you want to spend time with during the holidays.

Who nourishes you? Who are the family members, friends, and colleagues you enjoy being with? Who brings you down? Maybe this is not the year to get together with them!

Do you want to do any entertaining? If so, when and with whom? Plan ahead and ask for help if you want it. True friends and loved ones will not care how many hours you slaved over the stove. Spending time with you is what they'll cherish most. You don't have to be Martha Stewart to throw a great party!

Are you invited to holiday parties that you really don't want to go to, but you've gone in the past because you should? Be at choice -- don't play the victim! This is not about whom you should see, but rather whom you choose to spend time with.

3. Send holiday greeting cards with ease.

I’ve found a great service that enables you to send a real card in the mail for less than a dollar, including postage, without leaving the comfort of your desk. SendOutCards was recently reviewed in the Wall Street Journal. I have been using their service for a couple months now and I can vouch for the quality of their greeting cards.

With a simple click of your computer mouse, you can select from several hundred holiday cards to choose from, write a message (using your own handwriting font and signature) and send a printed greeting card. SendOutCards will print it, stuff it, stamp it (with a real stamp), and send it in the mail for you. Visit http://www.bethoughtfulnow.com for more information and to request a free gift account.

4. Mail packages with ease.

Mail packages early in December to avoid longer lines at the post office and ensure they will arrive in time. Or, better yet, sign up with Stamps.com or another online postage service and avoid the lines altogether. You can mail large packages without standing in any lines -- as long as you have an accurate way to weigh them before you purchase the postage online. Once you have added the correct postage (printed from your computer), you can drop the packages off at the loading dock of your local post office and avoid those long lines.

5. Thoughtfully plan your gift-giving.

Give from the heart, not out of obligation. Decide whom you choose to give to and make a list. This will help you avoid overspending through impulse buying.

If you think back to the most cherished gifts you have received, they are often homemade or from the heart. A gift of time -- such as a gift certificate redeemable for an activity you can do together -- can be very meaningful. Among the most prized gifts I've ever received have been homemade cards with a heartfelt note written inside. Value goes far beyond the cost of the gift.

A great resource for homemade gift ideas is a book called The Perfect Mix. It contains creative edible gift ideas, including wrapping suggestions and tag instructions, along with a source guide for supplies. The book offers more than 90 recipes for soups, breads, muffins, cookies, and other gifts. The gifts I've created from this book have been very well received and appreciated.

Instead of exchanging gifts with friends, consider having a holiday or post-holiday party with them.

Avoid parking hassles, gridlock traffic around the malls, and long lines at the register by shopping online and through catalogs. A number of retail stores now offer merchandise online, as well. If you are purchasing a gift that needs to be mailed, you can arrange to have it sent directly to the recipient, thus avoiding the extra steps of wrapping, labeling, and mailing the gift.

Wrapping gifts can take a lot of time. Instead of wrapping all of them, use a gift bag with a nice bow tied at the top, or use a decorated gift box.

Consider giving an alternative gift to a friend or loved one by giving to a charity in their name. One of my favorite charities is Heifer Project International. Through living gifts of animals, HPI is helping families worldwide to become self-reliant. You can buy an animal that can change the life of a hungry family and at the same time honor family and friends. Visit HPI's "gift catalog" at http://catalog.heifer.org/index.cfm

6. Spread holiday cheer with those in need.

Volunteer to serve a holiday meal to the homeless, work in a soup kitchen, or work at a food bank.

Adopt a family for the holidays and provide them with gifts or holiday foods. Many churches and non-profit organizations can match you with a needy family.

Look for a Giving Tree in your local retail stores. The tree is filled with cards that list a specific gift desired by someone in need. You select a card off the tree, purchase the suggested gift listed on the card, and return the gift to the tree with the card attached. The store wraps the gift and delivers it to the intended recipient.

The end of the tax year is a great time to review your budget and consider a year-end gift to your favorite charities. This can represent a significant tax deduction if you itemize, while doing great things locally and globally.

7. Use your calendar to help organize your time to reflect your priorities.

Once you are clear about your intentions, calendar them in. Writing them down for follow-up on a specific date will help you to remember to do it and will keep things from falling to the last minute. In other words, make appointments with yourself to follow through with specific tasks by a specific time.

As you prepare for the holidays, remember that the greatest gifts of all won't be found under the gift wrap. They'll be found in those special moments when you make a heart connection with those you care about.

Are You Unstoppable?

Mount EverestImage via Wikipedia

Unstoppable
By Rachelle Disbennett-Lee

There are many ways to create success. One of the chief ways is to become unstoppable. This happens when your passion, desire and willingness to do whatever it takes meld. When this happens it creates an unstoppable force and nothing will be able to keep you from achieving your goals.

When I look back over the times I attained success it was clearly when I was unstoppable. The ingredients that go into becoming unstoppable are passion, desire and the willingness to do whatever it takes. Another key ingredient is to never entertain the idea of giving up.

Getting my doctorate was one of the most challenging things I have ever done. I managed to cram seven years into a three-year program. It took more time, energy and money than I had ever imagined. The sacrifices were greater than anything I could possibly have anticipated, but I persevered.

I was unstoppable. I had the passion. I wanted that degree more than anything, and I had the desire and the willingness to jump through all the hoops and work through all kinds of obstacles. Although there were many times I broke down in tears, I never seriously thought of giving up. I wanted it too badly.

I can only imagine that people who climb Mt. Everest and do other amazing physical feats have the same commitment and desire I had when earning the degree. If you truly want to be a success and achieve the goal, you have to think of yourself as unstoppable.

The idea of giving up can never be considered and you have to be willing to do whatever it takes. When all of the key elements are present, you will create an environment where success is certain.

Being unstoppable is about being fierce. Being unstoppable doesn't mean that you won't come up against obstacles and challenges. What it means is you will figure a way around or even better yet through whatever is in your way.

If you want to achieve your goals, you have to create the mindset of being unstoppable. Once you decide that you will succeed the universe will work with you and support you in making your journey a success.

8 Winning Traits . . .

8 Winning Traits to Blast Through Obstacles
By Joan Clout-Kruse

A few years ago, while interviewing some Silicon Valley achievers, I discovered that successful people are dreamers, shakers and movers. While others talk about their dreams, achievers are doing it. They don’t wait for the right time, right weather or approval from others. They jump in and take charge. They have a lot of fun along the way as they explore, discover, plan and act on their dreams.

Take a look at the 8 traits listed below that identify the success strategies of the Silicon Valley achievers that I interviewed. Evaluate yourself on each trait and practice improving those traits that need strengthening. In no time you will find yourself achieving more than you ever dreamed possible.

The Success Traits of Silicon Valley Dynamos

1. Believe in Yourself. - Be positive. Be bold. Silicon Valley role models are assertive and confident in their decisions and activities--they believe they can do what they aim to do. And they know that the only limits that really count are the ones people place upon themselves. Looking for the good in other people, dynamos approach life with enthusiasm. Practice builds self-confidence. Just like Olympic champions, practice until you get it right and have an insurmountable belief in yourself that you can do it.

2. Educate Yourself. - Knowledge is power--increased knowledge strengthens self-esteem. The dynamic people interviewed practice honing their skills every day; learning is a lifelong habit they enjoy. They operate like Olympians who practice their skills daily for success--they read, attend seminars, take higher- learning classes, find mentors, and learn everything they can on the job. To get what they want, they’re willing to go the extra mile in search of answers. With childlike ingenuousness, they’re willing to ask questions of knowledgeable people who have the answers they need to reach success.

3. Work with Winners. - Super achievers know enough to ask for help and advice. No one succeeds alone. When making an uncomfortable change is necessary, they garner support. Gail Turner, the first woman to build her own experimental aircraft and fly solo from California to Wisconsin, had 30 friends help her build her second airplane. They came because they were caught up in her dream and her enthusiasm was infectious. “Don’t be afraid to ask for help,” Gail said. “Get advice: Successful people love to help others actualize their dreams.”

4. Take Risks. - They pushed through their fear. They kept on going and kept failure in perspective. None of them saw an obstacle as the end. They kept on going trying other routes until they found one that worked. They pushed through fear by taking more risks. They saw risk as challenges and opportunities. Networking trailblazer, Cesar Plata of MuyBueno.Net said, “As with anyone launching a startup business, I have endured many personal and financial sacrifices and struggles. I did not see these efforts as barriers; I accepted them as learning experiences. The way I see it, they were simply unmet challenges.”

5. Exercise the Will to Change. - Motivators’ inner strength keeps them on course. “Will is like a muscle--it grows stronger when you exercise it regularly,” said change expert Dr. Sidney B. Simon in his book, “Getting Unstuck.” Dynamos produce enough will to stay with any course of action they choose. Dynamos are passionate about their dreams--and they approach their goals creatively, open- mindedly, embracing change, and frequently looking for new opportunities.

6. Keep Hope Alive. - Visionaries always see alternatives to problems: Light at the end of the tunnel. They look for options and ways to achieve their goals. Kilsoon Kim maintained hope that her children would be well educated--even after her husband died and she lost her home. She saved her money and her children did go to college. Stay focused on your goal and never give up.

7. Visualize and Dream. - Dynamos clearly imagine reaching their goal. They see the end result in their mind’s eye and then turn their dreams into reality. They know what it takes to achieve their dreams, and they persevere until they reach their goal. Gail Turner dreamed about building her own airplane although she didn’t know how to do it; she envisioned and believed it would happen.

8. Embrace Excellence. - Achievers compete with themselves and attain excellence by challenging themselves to do better. Most avoid those deadly energy drainers: procrastination and perfectionism. Successful people practice self- improvement each day. Even if what they do isn’t perfect, they remain flexible to keep on going.

"Success is always a journey", said Sal Dossani, president of Joinus travel agency. "Once we actualize a dream, in time we want to move on to something else that will challenge and fulfill our lives. Be creative and use your inspiration and imagination to follow your dreams."

The Chicken and The Egg

Goals and Beliefs - The Chicken and The Egg
By Liz Cassidy

Tis the season to be jolly. Tis also the season to look back on the year that was, celebrate personal growth, victories and achievements and reflect on losses, misses and down right stuff ups.

We individually reflect on the year that was; maybe in an MS Word generated letter to distant relatives and friends interstate or overseas, summarizing how we did, who changed jobs, house moves, little Johnnie’s cricket scores, the Grandkids new teeth and so on. How much different from last year is it?

Then, in the Christmas hangover comes New Year complete with bagpipes, parties and resolutions. We will; improve business revenue, have a better sales quarter, cut costs; spend more time with staff and less on paperwork; go to the gym, lose weight, stop smoking; drink more (water) and so on…...

Some of us write down our goals, type them up, make spreadsheets, print them in colour, and put them on notice boards. And some of us came to the conclusion; that New Years Resolutions (like affirmations) don’t work so why bother? After all haven’t we got enough proof that New Years Resolutions and Goal Setting doesn’t work, because we just did the “that was the year that was” exercise and not a lot happened like it was supposed to. Or did it?

For a few of us, New Years Resolutions are just not necessary because we already have our goals clearly written out, we regularly review and update progress, we put structures in place to hold ourselves accountable, and we measure our performance.

So, what is the difference between looking back on the year in December 2006 seeing a great year, lots of achievements and growth and feeling good; or seeing a bit of a non event, having Christmas dinner in the same house, same conversations, same complaints, same old, same old?

The difference that makes the difference is our belief.

“If you believe you can, or believe you can’t you’re right” Often misquoted and so true.

Have you ever set a goal, or had one set for you, and you really believed deep down that you couldn’t do it? What happened? You were right weren’t you? Conversely have you ever had a goal where you knew for sure that this was a piece of cake? Yes, and you were right again, weren’t you? With all the experience, skills and knowledge you now have, could you go back and achieve the first goal? Maybe, probably. With the benefit of 20:20 hindsight what was the difference?

Take 5 minutes private time out for the next startlingly simple but powerful exercise

Look at a simple goal you currently have – Write it down with its due date. Study it. Now, write down all your beliefs about this one goal. List everything positive and supportive and all the hairy beliefs as well. Leave nothing out. Done? Good.

Now look back at your behaviours in the last month in respect of this one goal, and delete those beliefs which have not been totally supported by your behaviours. (For example, your goal is to run your first ever marathon in June 06. You believe you are getting fit. You believe you are going to do it in under 4 hours.

Your behaviour is that it is 7 months away you have not yet put on your running shoes to train! Put a line through “getting fit”, and put another line through the “under 4 hours” belief. Your behaviours do not support your stated beliefs). Is this getting tough?

Now, imagine Big Brother has been observing and recording your behaviours for the last month. Write down a separate list of what Big Brother would interpret your beliefs to be in relation to this goal from his examination of your behaviours. Be honest, you are the only person reading the 2 lists. (e.g. in the marathon example, “I believe I am not capable”)

Compare the two lists. These are your real beliefs as you are living them in relation to this one goal. What are your lists telling you about your beliefs around this particular goal? Are they supportive of achieving the goal or limiting you and holding you back?

This was a simple exercise related to just one goal. If you found you only had supportive beliefs, then congratulations, you are probably well on your way to achieving that goal. Repeat the exercise for some of the goals you are not achieving, you may uncover a limiting belief holding you back. If so, well done again. You are now one step closer to achieving (or redefining) these goals also.

The lesson is: that when we believe we can – we will. When we believe we can’t –we won’t. It is that simple.

This lesson applies to you, your staff, and your kids, to everyone.

You may be wondering why one staff/team member is struggling to reach a target you set and another is effortlessly exceeding budget, when both appear to have the same skills etc. Limiting beliefs may be a factor. Whilst performance management is a useful tool, it is also a blunt one. Share this article with your team as an opening for discussions to explore if there are limiting beliefs holding someone back.

The great thing about beliefs is that they are just beliefs. Beliefs are just thought forms. The most powerful belief we can have is that we control our beliefs. We can change them at will! For those of you who now want to argue that point and tell me that you will go to war for your beliefs. Remember the tooth fairy? That belief fell by the wayside with a little new knowledge and a different perspective.

Look back into your history, how many other beliefs have you left behind with as you acquired personal growth, new knowledge and experience? Coming from Northern Irish Catholic stock - I attest to leaving a few unuseful but very strong beliefs behind along the way, that’s growth.

So I repeat – the most powerful belief we can have is that we can change our beliefs.

As you look at your unfinished goals again - examine them now in a new light, what limiting beliefs do you have which may have held you back?

Changing limiting beliefs can be as straightforward as speaking them aloud and acknowledging their existence. (Note: best done in privacy) However for the more complex limiting beliefs Performance Coaching may be useful.

Begin it now - Start shifting limiting beliefs and achieving your goals.

Take Time to Save Time

Take Time to Save Time
By Jeanie Marshall

Frequently, we say, "I don't have time to ......" Often this is an excuse to justify doing something else or not doing anything. The following is an updated version of an article I originally wrote in 1980, about fifteen years before I published it in the Marshall House Journal.

You may want to read these items with the intention of identifying just one that is the most important for you at this time. Successful individuals already perform most of the ideas on this list.

1. Take Time to Plan. - One minute of planning saves three minutes of work or re-planning.

2. Take Time to Organize. - Your work needs a structure that reduces unnecessary, repetitive decisions.

3. Take Time to Set Goals. - A goal that is identified and acknowledged can be achieved. When written, goals become more real.

4. Take Time to Schedule. - A deadline that is not set might not be met. Set several intermediate deadlines to meet a major deadline.

5. Take Time to Decide Priorities. - Knowledge of the relative importance of activities reduces re-inventing a system at the beginning of each task. Focus your attention on the important issues.

6. Take Time to Analyze the Situation. - Although it is not possible to have all the facts all the time, it is important to review the essential ones.

7. Take Time to Reflect. - Reflection can take many forms throughout the day for maximum effect. More than reviewing, reflection allows you to sort the essential items from those that are less important.

8. Take Time to Involve Others. - Involve in the decision-making process those who will carry out the decision yields dividends in individual commitment. And, these are the persons who have relevant ideas!

9. Take Time to Divide the Job. - Many small tasks reach the goal in less time than a few larger tasks. Additionally, it is more satisfying to achieve several objectives en route to your higher goals.

10. Take Time to Delegate. - Distribute tasks to enhance others' experience and increase leverage. Be certain that the delegated responsibilities are meaningful and stimulating, not just the tasks you do not want to do.

11. Take Time to Explain Clearly. - A few well-chosen words that clearly direct others avoid duplicate effort and disappointment.

12. Take Time to Review your Work. - Check your work when you finish. For more thorough review and correction, let it rest a while and review it again.

13. Take Time to Relax. - Just a few moments can replenish you. When you are relaxed and refreshed, you are more efficient.

14. Take Time to Meditate. - The journey within is increasingly more important when your life is hectic. Twenty minutes in true meditation each day enhances brain function, breathing, sleep, relaxation, response to stress, and general well-being.

15. Take Time to Do It Now! - Procrastination is a thief of time and confidence. Do the job now.

Do You Fail Your Family?

Little Things Mean a Lot
By Tim Ong

Each day, in the news, we read about the merging of companies, banks and multinational corporations into ever bigger entities. As they grew bigger, they gain more leverage, more control, and greater monopoly of the markets, thus assuring the slow but steady demise of small concerns. Thus we can easily understand why most people think big is better. So, why are we talking about the little things?

Priority

While thinking big may be good for corporations, the same does not necessary apply to a relationship. In a relationship, thinking small is better.

Thinking small means paying attention to details and taking the pain to make small gestures and actions count - something we often ignore when we deal with people, whether they are our loved ones, our friends or our colleagues.

We forget that little things can mean a lot. Although deep in our heart, we know that we value them as significant people in our live, our behaviours and actions don’t reflect that.

So, while we may go out of the way to remember a customer’s birthday, we forget our spouse’s birthday. We remember our client’s anniversary but forget our own. We take the extra effort to plan for our client’s functions but forget to plan for our child’s birthday.

We truly believe our family comes first, yet we behave as though our clients are more important to us than our family. What is wrong with us? Where is our priority?

We often console ourselves by saying that we’ll make it up to our loved ones with our next bonus, or the next holidays but when the time comes, we never do.

Little Things Mean A Lot

Time and again we fail our family, yet they are always there for us, no matter what. It’s time we re-arrange our priorities and do what we know we needed to do - put our family first. It doesn’t take a lot to make our loved ones happy. Very often, small thoughtful gestures mean more to them than monetary value.

My 5 year old daughter, for example, would chose to have me read her a story book than to buy her a toy. My 3 year old son prefers a walk in the park. My wife is happy with a “I love you” card which I sent her occasionally, not just on her birthday or our wedding anniversary.

A Powerful Lesson

I learnt the value of small thoughtful gestures when I was 18. It was the year I represented my country in a student exchange programme to USA. On a flight to New York from Los Angeles, an elderly American sat beside me. When he learned that I was in his country as an exchange student, he paid for my movie on the plane.

Though the gesture was small, to me, his act represented an act of kindness to a complete stranger. It was my first impression of the American people. The impression stayed till this very day.

Summary

Caught in the rat race, we often forget that little gestures can leave lasting impressions - impressions that may shape the future thoughts and characters of our kids and loved one.

Thus it is good to remind ourselves every so often to review our priorities and see if our actions reflect the priorities in our life. Remember the little things - they mean a lot to our loved ones.

Beat Those Insecurities!

Insecurities We All Possess, But Can Beat!
By Gail Wahl

Walking into the room, my heart pounds. Averting all eye contact, I make my way to the back row for surely no one will desire to talk with me. I will remain alone and unnoticed, as if I am the only one in the room. When the meeting finishes I leave having gained nothing other than accomplishing the task of showing up. I leave empty.

* * * * * * * * * *

Does this describe an experience you may have encountered in your walk of life? I have allowed many experiences like this to occur in my life. I say allowed because that is exactly what I did. I chose to allow the experience to be negative instead of positive. When I realized that this was a choice I was freed from feeling alone and empty.

I have had many friends tell me I always appear so confident when I walk into a room and that I seem to know everyone. Well here is the truth about that. I’m not and I don’t! I experience the same fears and insecurities as everyone else.

The difference is, (most of the time) I choose not to let these fears and insecurities prevent me from experiencing the joys of life. I would much rather leave a room knowing I made others feel connected and noticed and in the process, receive much joy.

Recently, I was at a conference where I knew no-one. I had conversed with many via email, but never met any of them face to face. I found myself sitting at a big round table at dinner, looking into the faces of people I knew very little or nothing about. I had a choice. I could choose to keep my eyes on my food, speak only when spoken to and just endure the hour or two I was going to be with them.

Or, I could take a deep breath, look them in the eyes, ask questions about their life and make them feel noticed and valued. It didn’t matter if they asked me any questions. What mattered is that they walked out of that dinner feeling like they had a new friend and that someone cared. What did this cost me? Nothing. What did I gain? Confidence and joy that I had built someone else up.

Confidence comes from within. Confidence is not a respecter of beautiful or plain people. The plainest person can have all the confidence in the world and a person of outward beauty can be riddled with insecurities.

Our mind is a funny thing. It plays games with us. It likes to fill us with lies about who we are or are not and what kind of value we are to this world.

Let me tell you a little secret. You were fearfully and wonderfully made. God did not make any mistakes. You were created to be of value to this world, just as you are. Each one of us brings value to this world through our uniqueness. No one can fill your place in the world like you can.

So, the next time you are entering a situation where fear and anxiety begin to plague you, do the following:

1. Take a deep breath

2. Pull your shoulders back and keep your head up

3. Walk confidently to your destination

4. Look people in the eye

5. Greet others with a confident handshake (I prefer hugs)

6. Ask questions of others

7. Walk away knowing you made someone feel valued and noticed

* * * * * * * * *

I take a deep breath, pull my shoulders back, keep my head up and walk into the room. I glance around at those in the room, making eye contact and giving people a smile that they may not have seen all day. I notice a woman sitting all alone and walk over to her. I ask if anyone is sitting next to her and after she looks at me with a startled gaze, I sit down. I introduce myself and after brief introductions we realize we have a few things in common.

Throughout the meeting we banter back and forth and as the evening closes we agree the evening has gone by much too fast. We have had an enjoyable evening, made a new friend and have someone new to wave to as we walk down the streets. We are both filled up with confidence, friendship and a sense of belonging.

What you see is what you get!

What You Focus on is What You See
By Justin Herald

What you see is what you get!

I was recently asked if I am a “half full” or “half empty” type of person with regards to the glass example. My reply was very short, sharp and to the point. I replied, “I just see the glass. It is up to me to either fill it or empty it”.

Whilst this may sound simplistic, you would be surprised to see how many people actually let their experiences, good or bad, affect their future direction. Let me explain this point by telling you a story.

A Chinese farmer was ploughing the village’s fields. As the village only had one horse, it was his job in life to ensure that the horse was looked after as if anything happened to it, the village would be left without its hardest worker.

One day as he was tending the field, the horse broke free and disappeared into the mountains. He tried to find it with no luck. He returned to the village and told them all what happened. As he finished telling them what had happened someone said “that’s bad luck!” As quick as the comment was given, he gave a reply “bad luck, good luck, who knows”?

The village just went on with their day as there was really noting that could be done about it.

The following day whilst the entire village were out tending the field the horse returned, but with it came back 2 smaller horses in tow. Now the village had three horses that would be of great value to them. As the villagers saw this, someone said to the farmer “Now that’s good luck!” the farmer replied, “Good luck, bad luck, who knows”? And they all went back to work.

The following week whilst the farmer was tending the field with his son, one of the new horses reared up in a panic after being frightened by something and kicked its back legs. The son was standing very close to the horse and as a result, he felt the impact of that horses force. So much so that it broke his leg.

The villagers came running to see what the fuss was all about, and upon seeing the son of the farmer in a heap on the ground with a broken leg, one of them spoke saying “now that’s bad luck”. Once again the farmer shot back, “bad luck, good luck, who knows?”

About three weeks later whilst the village was going about their business, the army arrived to conscript all of the younger men of the village. When they came to the house of the farmer, they realised that he could not go with them due to his broken leg, so he was spared. When the army had left his neighbour said to him “that was good luck!” once again he replied “good luck, bad luck, who knows”?

So what am I trying to tell you, you might ask? Simple really; just because something may not go the way that you had planned, or something bad might happen to you, you never know what good can come out of it. Life will hand us all some curly situations. If we just give up, throw the towel in and sulk for the rest of our lives, then nothing will ever change. We all need to get up and get back on track.

Good things will happen to us as well as bad things. The true measure of someone is how they handle not only the bad times but also the good. If you are in a place in your life right now that is far from pleasant. They way that you look at your situation will be a direct indication as to how long it will take you to get out of it.

Resolution Time is Coming!

First, I just want to announce again that the latest RGG Ezine is online for reading, there is lots of information for you there. For those of you do do not get it delivered - The Realgoalgetter Ezine

It is the last one for this year and will start up again on January 10, 2006. The Realgoalgetter Chronicle will continue for a few more days, maybe until the 15th. Then I will restart them after January 1.

New Years Resolution Time is Coming!

2006, here we come ready or not!

I'm reviewing my goals to analyze how much or how little I made progress on each item. I do this regularly so that I can adjust effort where necessary to insure that I stay on track with my goals.

I must say that I had another great year! I also must say that it is increasingly evident that New Years is fast approaching. It is early December and Christmas is just around the corner.

That means that New Year's Day comes soon after and everyone will be making their annual New Year's Resolutions. I can just hear it now. I am going to . . blah blah . . this year.

Most people have really good intentions but never seem to pull it off when the rubber meets the road. Why is this? Are these people just lazy? Don't they have the motivation? Some of them really want to change. Why is it that many people cannot make this happen for themselves?

Whether it is quitting smoking, losing weight, getting more fit, paying down debt, or just making more money, each year people resolve that the next year will be different and they charge ahead full blast each January 1. Then they seem to fizzle out within a short time. It doesn't happen for them.

Is this you? Have you had trouble meeting your New Years Resolutions in the past? Did you give up on some goal or habit that was tremendously important to you, that would have positively impacted your life for the better, that would have bumped your self image up a notch or two?

Or, are you one of those that sucked it up, bore down hard, gave it all you had, pushed through your past limits and then felt the excitement, the exhilaration you could only feel after pulling off a huge win?

Which scenario did you play out last year? If you were in the latter group, then Congratulations!

If you were one of those who want to improve their strategies, then this year is your year. Another chance to show your stuff is coming around the corner.

Where will you be in January when it is time to start fresh and build momentum from Day 1? Let's move forward from here and positively impact our lives by developing empowering habit patterns.

I traditionally wind down in December, but that doesn't mean you should if you have not met your 2005 goals yet. Just continue going after whatever your heart desires. 'Action Rules'. It will work for whatever goal you will apply it to, it is the common denominator.

See you next time.

Persist! No Matter What.

Bouncing Back To Move Forward!
by Garry Zancanaro

Every person who has ever actively worked on self improvement and bettering themselves and their lives will have suffered setbacks. The most successful people in the world did not become successful overnight. They will almost certainly have suffered more disappointments, setbacks and even unmitigated disasters, than most people.

Successful people will definitely have made wrong decisions and expensive mistakes, and taken wrong turns on their journey to success. Things may have been going extremely well and they then encountered events beyond their control, or made choices, which caused them to lose everything they had built up.

Often when we try something new, things can go wrong and everything may not go according to plan. When this happens, we may well question our abilities and ambitions, or think we were misguided in trying to a build a better life for ourselves and our family. Many people consider themselves failures at this point and just give up and retreat to their comfort zones.

However, it's worth remembering that the only way we can guarantee we will never fail is to never try anything. But just think, if we gave up at the first or second hurdle, or never tried anything new, we wouldn't be able use our computers, drive our cars, play sports - or even read, walk or talk!

Successful people are also disappointed and affected by setbacks, and certainly get knocked down more often than most, if only because they try more things. This may happen not once or twice, but dozens or even hundreds of times. But successful people refuse to stay down - because they are resilient and will not be denied their dreams and goals.

Many successful people had to go to extreme lengths to achieve their goals. Walt Disney was turned down for finance to build Disneyland by more than 300 banks. They all thought he was mad and that his vision for Disneyland would never take off.

Colonel Sanders had a great chicken recipe and believed he could teach people how to cook his chicken to increase their businesses. He spent two years driving across America, sleeping in his car, and calling on restaurants who weren't interested. He was often mocked and laughed at, and apparently he was turned down over 1,000 times before he heard his first yes!

The greatest inventor if the twentieth century, Thomas Edison was also one of the greatest failure of all time. For every invention of Edison's that worked, thousands of attempts over many years didn't work. But Edison didn't consider these failures. He confidently expected to find the right solutions after he had learnt from and eliminated all the unsuccessful methods!

How many people would have had these levels of perseverance and persistence and would have been able to bounce back from so much rejection and disappointment?

These men had dreams they believed in and were committed to, and were prepared to do whatever it took to achieve their goals. They learnt from their setbacks and changed their plans or revised their approach, and did whatever was necessary until they got what they were aiming for.

It is, however, important that we recognise that resilience and determination are not the same as stubbornness. There is no point doing exactly the same thing again and again and expecting different results. We must be prepared to be flexible and to adapt our plans and goals accordingly.

Studies have shown that 95% of goals people set will be ultimately achieved if they learn from their difficulties and don't give up. Lack of talent or opportunity has almost nothing to do with people not reaching their goals and becoming successful. Instead, the main reason is that people lack the determination and persistence to overcome setbacks and obstacles.

Resilience is essential, and there are learnable techniques and strategies that can help develop this characteristic. Successful people know there are no failures because there are lessons to be learned from everything that happens to them, both good and bad.

In fact, it is usually our failures and mistakes - what we learn from them and how we react to them - that build our character and determine our levels our success. The only real failure is to give up altogether.

Quote of the Day

"The majority of men meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail." - Napoleon Hill

15 Minutes To Self Confidence

Improve Your Self Confidence in 15 Minutes
By Mark Tyrrell

I used to be frighteningly under confident in social situations. And although people who know me now would never believe I used to doubt myself so much I literally had to learn confidence until it became a natural part of me. I can tell you relaxed optimistic confidence is just, well so much more fun.

Here I'll tell you about the things that made the most difference to my confidence levels...

Some people have naturally high levels of confidence but everybody can learn to be more confident and

Firstly, it's important to get a clear idea of what self confidence really means, otherwise you won't know when you've got it! So, self confidence means:

1) Being calm. For every situation in life you need to run on the appropriate level of emotion. Too much emotional ‘leakage’ into a experience can spoil the experience. You make great strides towards confidence when you begin to relax in a greater range of situations.

2) Being cool. The second part of self confidence is about being able to relax with uncertainty. To be ‘cool’ in a situation really means relaxing with not knowing how things will pan out. If you truly tolerate uncertainty, you can do pretty much anything.

3) Not being too concerned with what others think of you. You know when you imagine what some place is going to be like before you go there but when you get there it is totally different to your imagination? That’s how reliable your imagination is! Stop trusting your imagination so much. I’ve long since stopped bothering to imagine what others think of me because so often I've turned out to be wrong.

4) Being specific - where do you want confidence? ‘Confidence’ is meaningless until you tie it to something specific. You are already confident that you can read these words or can switch a light on and off. So you don’t need more confidence everywhere. To get what you want in life you have to establish exactly what you do want. Where do you want confidence in your life? Think about the specific situations now and write them down. You beginning to steer your brain towards confidence.

5) Understanding that what you expect is what you get

Your brain is an organ that needs clear goals to work towards. When a task has been set in your brain it will do everything it can do to bring about the completion of that task. If you’ve tried to recall someone’s name but can’t, hours later you’ll often find their name pops into your head.

The ‘trying to recall’ experience set the task or blueprint for your brain’s future subconscious behaviour which eventually produced the name for you - when you weren’t thinking about it consciously. You can use this natural mechanism to start feeling more confident. But, to ensure you set the right task for your subconscious mind, the next point is vital.

6) Don’t task your mind with negatives. Instead of: ‘I don’t want to screw up' (which sets the task of ‘screwing up’ for your brain), set the blueprint for what you do want! Your brain doesn’t work towards what to do by being told what not to do. And nature has given you a wonderful natural tool to set the right task blueprints with.

7) Use nature's goal-setter: Now you understand how vital it is to set the right task for you brain, you need to know how to do this reliably. Good hypnosis will strongly ‘program’ the right blueprint in your mind through the use of your imagination. If you powerfully imagine feeling confident and relaxed while in a relaxed hypnotic state it will be hard for your unconscious mind to do anything else. The blueprint for relaxation has been set firmly into your subconscious mind.

3 simple strategies to get you feeling confident quickly:

1) Think specifically of the time/place/situation you want to feel confident in. Remember ‘confidence’ doesn’t mean anything until you attach it to something specific.

2) Focus on words in your mind right now that describe how you do want to be in that time and place. Maybe words such as ‘calm’, ‘relaxed’ or ‘focused’. Remember your brain works on clear positive instructions.

3) Close your eyes for as long as you like and think about how those words feel. Then, imagine the situation itself and rehearse it in your mind feeling confident and relaxed. This way you set the right blueprint or ‘task’ for your unconscious mind.

You can repeat this often to make it more effective and use it with as many areas of your life as you need to. If you listen to a hypnotic cd or download that can make the benefits even more powerful (see my profile below). So if you feel like you’d be blessed with less confidence than some other people you can start redressing the balance by using your mind in the right way right now.

It took me years to learn how to be more confident - now you can do it in a fraction of the time. Good luck!

Action Step

I love articles about self confidence because at one time I had very little. My own self image was lower than a snake's belly at one time, if you can picture that. I have worked hard at overcoming some very powerful phobias from my past. Confidence is key to success in most endeavors.

Pick some action or task you would like to have more confidence in doing and do this simple 3 step exercise. It does work.

See you next issue.

Success is . . .

Before we get to today's article on Time, I just want to announce that the current issue of The Realgoalgetter Ezine is now online. This will also the last RGG Ezine published for 2005. Enjoy!

Success is a Just a Matter of Time!
By Ricardo Leal

Time is not on our side! As a matter of fact from the day we enter this world time is ticking against us. To put it another way, from the very first instance we fill our tiny little lungs with air, from that very first breath we take at birth; we are already dying! It’s a grim perspective, but it is one that will improve the quality of your life, and really allow you to see how precious time really is. In essence, life is just time! So, my question is, How will you spend your time?

If we are to enjoy this life of ours, then we must have goals, we must want to achieve something, anything. This is a prerequisite for living, and an essential part of your life experience. Once you know what you want you can begin to plan how you will get it. Remember there is no time to think about excuses, only solutions. Success takes action. The word impossible must not live in your vocabulary. You don’t have the luxury of procrastination. Today is here, if you wait until tomorrow you will be no closer to your goal; instead you will be closer to dying.

Hey, I know how this works. Right now there are about 20% of readers who will completely ignore this advice, call it stupid, make comments about how you should be positive and not think about the end of life! Blah blah blah blah! And then go and sit on the coach and watch their favourite soap. Enjoy!

60% of readers will agree, life needs to be lived, enjoyed. These people understand that you have to try to get the most out of life. They will read it, think about a goal and probably even think about making it happen, but not really do anything about it! Life will be good, but setbacks and failure to truly succeed will always be blamed on external factors, and bad luck! Tick Tick Tick…

19% of readers will get it! They will begin to think about the future and how they would like to live it. They will right down their goals. They will generally be happier then the other 80% because they have purpose in life. They are do’ers and probably have already set and planned goals previously. They have a vision of the future and they want to do what they can so that it will become reality. They will succeed at reaching goals, and will enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

1% of readers will know how important time is. They value each and every minute of life. They set goals, they plan, they visualise the future, and they succeed! All because of a simple change of perspective. They are generally the type of people who also have great jobs, and loads of money, or they have a great family bond and true friends. Of course there are many other important factors to live an inspirational life. Love, laughter, compassion, passion; with these added in, you will live an extraordinary life!

So my question to you is… How will you spend your time?

A Success Recipe

A Success Recipe
By Terje Ellingsen

To make a recipe for success you need to find out what successful people are doing to get successful. You need role models and the more you know about them, the better you can copy their behaviour and obtain the same. So what do successful people have in common? Below are some characteristics based on observation of people that have been successful in one or more areas of life.

Successful people are competitive
- When successful people get in the game - whatever it is, they want to win. No successful person or role model ever play to lose, they go all out and give what they are able to give, within the rules and don’t give up until the game is over. Even if successful persons lose, they are gracious and they learn from it. People with success find out why they lost and try to avoid the behaviour that caused this loss in similar future situations.

You must stay focused to be successful
- We see that people with success are staying extremely focused in what they are doing or trying to accomplish. When they set their mind to something, they keep their eyes on it like a laser beam.

Successful people have fun
- Winners love what they are doing whether it is as business managers, in their job or careers, in their relationships and families etc. and they have a lot of fun with what they are doing as well.

To become successful you must work hard
- People who succeed put in long hours and are working much more than the average person. Successful results are made by plain old long hours. Unfortunately, most people just aren’t willing to do it, therefore most people aren't successful. Everybody needs to relax in between their working hours. Successful people know how to relax better than most of us.

Successful persons are intense
- Whatever people with success are working with or trying to accomplish, they put their energy into it. They possess a kind of 'all or nothing' attitude and this is what keeps them going when the going get rough.

No risk - no success
- If you are not willing to take a calculated risk now and then, you can't expect to be successful. When you do a change in your life - whatever it is - you are taking a risk. I'm running a successful business but it wasn't successful in the beginning. I quit my job as a business consultant because I was so convinced that I would succeed that I was willing to take that risk. I have to this day no regrets.

To achieve success you must be strategic
- When I started up my business I wrote a description of how I wanted to live the rest of my life and I estimated how much money that would cost. Then I worked out a strategy for earning this money and converted the strategy into a detailed plan of actions I had to take and when my monetary goals should be reached.

I'm still working according to this success plan, but I have to admit that I have adjusted it more than one time because the partial goals I've estimated so far have appeared to be far too small compared to what has actually happened. Under such circumstances however, setting unrealistic goals makes me feel fine, at least each time I recover my successful miscalculation.

How To Stay Positive

Being Positive in A Negative Environment, Just Do It!
By Robert Paisola

Many times during a seminar, someone will stand up and ask, "Rob, it sounds easy coming from you, but how is it possible for me to stay positive in all that I do, when I am always around negative people and negative situations day in and day out?

Well, the answer to this is pretty simple.

It just depends on how you mentally prepare for the situations that show up in your life BEFORE they appear!

Now allow me to clear up some misconceptions you might have based on that last statement. I am not one of those folks that walk around with what is commonly referred to as a career politician's smile painted across my face.

Although I do believe whole-heartedly in the power that a simple smile can impart on another. No, you see, just like everyone else, no matter how over all a positive person I am, or attempt to view things I still have my down moments.

I like to call it being simply REAL and HUMAN!

The very fact that we are just that, human, allows us all to have down times. No matter who you are, you are going to have good days and bad days, but the difference lies in how quickly we choose to get over those things that are holding us back, or making us feel at less then our personal best.

And that I believe is a major key - being able to internally get past the downtimes in ones life as quickly as possible and getting back on with being your best. Moving towards continuous improvement.

Remember, achieving the goal of continuous self-improvement is a hands on project. That is to say that without ongoing implementation and attempting of the new ideas we learn, try as we might, we aren't going to miraculously wake up one day changed people. No, we've got to apply those ideas and bits of advice we learn.

Now if I might elaborate a bit on motivation itself. And how I believe you can better stay on the path of leading a more positive life, as well as pursuing your journey with greater motivation. I'll use the saying of one of my personal mentors, Zig Ziglar; he has such a simple - yet powerful way of getting the point across...

Zig say's, "People often say motivation doesn't last, well that may be true, but neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it every day."

Now if that's not an ahhh haaaa moment for you, I'd like to ask you to really take in the simplicity of Mr. Ziglar's words. You see, that is the "gasoline" that has fueled my own journey to where I am now.

It's how I stay positive in a world that others might tend to view as negative. It's how I tune out most of the negative things around me, and tune into what's positive.

But enough about me... Most importantly, it's how you can lead a more positive daily life. And as you can see, it's not really all that complex is it? Rather, it's pretty simple!

Let's look at it another way. You wake up and you pretty much have a clean slate. In most cases your day is fresh - neither overly negative nor positive.

That being the case - and if you'll concede that what I illustrated above is true, then wouldn't it stand to reason that importing positive thoughts (i.e. reading, listening, reciting, etc.) first thing in the morning, and throughout your day could do wonders towards reprogramming your mind and the over all way in which you see your world?

I would say that it would - So here's your homework for today... Ugghhh, I never was that great of a student, and so I must tell you that even hearing that word homework, gives me the shivers as I'm sure it did some of you... Even so, like I said before, self-improvement is a hands on project so it's worth getting over it and now embracing the view that you are a life long learner.

I did, and I can tell you - I've been infinitely better for it as I'm certain you will as well. It really is just a shift in your thinking from - I'm not a good student to - I enjoy learning for what it will make of me. Simple? Of course, but I'm living proof that simplicity is often all it takes.

So here's what I am going to personally ask you to do....

Copy the following quote again on a 3x5 index card - or somewhere you can keep it handy and not lose it:

"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily" - Zig Ziglar.

Read that simple statement several times a day. Also, choose to read something or listen to something of a positive nature at least three times a day - preferably, morning, noon and evening. What would be even better is if you could immediately counter any and all negative experiences with something positive.

Given the events of most people's days this isn't always feasible, but it can pay dividends and is worth attempting. The big thing to keep in mind here is that no matter how great any idea or advice is, unless YOU choose to implement it and give it a fair shot to work its magic in your life you're not going to get results.

Let me say that again - because it's that important!

YOU have to be a part of your own success journey. If you want to see real lasting change for the better in your life, you've got to be the biggest part of the process. Because one thing that I know is that achieving success is a day to day process that requires all of us to simply DO IT!

So simply knowing that you can offset your negative feelings by introducing positive thoughts into your mind simply isn't enough. No - you've got to actually do it - it's going to mean keeping that motivational book, or tape handy to refer to when you need to.

It might mean stopping what you're doing at the moment or even scheduling yourself (and sticking to it) sometime to take in positive or motivational material.

Like dieting, or exercising, developing a positive mental attitude is a choice. It requires nurturing. It's not always immediate, but if you will work on it, and cultivate it you will see results. And those around you will as well.

And you thought that being Successful, was complicated!
