How To Get Yourself To Take Action - (build self discipline)
Tips on getting yourself to do something that you don't want to. Ask yourself this question: How can I get myself to start taking consistent action towards my goals. How can I stop procrastination in it's tracks?
When you answer this question, I mean, really answer this question for yourself, all that you want in life will be yours for the taking. I have found that this is a very personal solution in that not everything will work for everyone.
What will work for everyone is the fact that once you make the decision to get it done, and commit to it, then, you will find the right method to use. (Reason then Strategy) Look at each task on a per 'action' basis, not all lumped together, because they all are different, and you want to have an arsenal of tools handy to deal with it when it come up.
1. Preparation is Key! Spend some time on this!
2. There is 'The Why!' Find a reason great enough and leverage will overcome inertia.
3. Pattern Interrupts work fine for some people. Find out what will work for you and then use them.
4. Physiology changes, (posture), power moves, questions to change state work.
5. Making the task easier to do than not to do, works for some.
6. The 15 minute rule, chunking it down into 15 minute time limits helps some to build the momentum necessary to blow through the task.
7. Breaking a task down into ridiculously simple to do actions, works.
8. Make a Commitment to someone you wouldn't dream of letting down is effective.
9. Celebrate the growth you will feel by doing something that you wouldn't have done yesterday.
10. Pump yourself up, Do the worst ones first, while your energy is high, and the rest will come easy, as your momentum grows.
11. Crowd out the negative thoughts and self talk with positives, affirmations, works for some.*
All of these have worked for me at times, but when it is all said and done, sometimes they won't, and you will just have bite the bullet, and as Nike says, JUST DO IT! Whatever it takes; Just Get it done!
